Top Speed (stupidity)

Postby mhuppertz » Sat May 10, 2008 9:38 am

Last week my son and I were driving into town on the freeway (divided, concrete barriers on both sides) and this ricer blasted by us. My foot twitched and I started to sweat, but I kept it under control. After that, and hot WRX blasted by, and my son said it was one of his friends who had turbo'd the crap out of his car. I started to sweat even more, and started cramping up, but still held, until my son asked how fast that guy was going! The dam broke. I jammed on it and in a very short time my speedo was wrapped all the way down past bottom dead center (BDC)!!!
My temps were good because it was slightly down hill, but I got out of it pretty quickly because I don't think my BFG's are Z rated tires . We did manage to figure out his friens was going about 110, and we were going about 115.
Worst part is, there was still a little left in her. And yes, I checked the speedo and it is dead on.

I have the Gear Vendors on the bench for rebuild (letting her bleed right now), and I have to wonder, with the GV and my Snow Performance put in, I wonder what the top speed would be?

Disclaimer: I do not advocate speeding on public roads. This is a cautionary tale that could have turned out very bad. I probably corrupted my 17 year old son (who graduates Wednesday). I have no excuse.

I'd say 135mph or so...

Depending on your gearing probably faster then that. I had my 24V up over 120 before with the RAD box and a comp. THat was an NV4500 and 3.55 gears.

My truck has spun the rollers past 160mph on the dyno, and somewhere around 140 is the fastest it has been on the street. Of course since it traps the 1/4mile at about 110 it sees that pretty regular. 8)

Geez! What kind of overdrive are you running, and how what's the RPM at 140 and 160?

I think flying brick is what Brian called it right after he made the 48*hp run years back. Not sure of the gearing probably 3.55 in a dana 80 and a getrag is what is in that truck.

I know he was talking MPH. I was wondering how many RPM he was showing at those speeds. My truck would be at over 4,400 RPM at 160 without the gear vendors.

I've had mine up to a buck ten, no problem. It had lots left too. ;)

My son is only 5, and he likes to go fast. I never, ever go over 75 or so with him in the truck, 'cause sthi happens. He thinks we're going light speed though, so all is good!

mh, I think kta has said before he has 3.31 d80 gears, getrag and was up to around 4200rpm at least in the past.

It also equals NV4500 which is what the fellow who posted this has in his truck acording to his sig. Just trying to be as percise as can be. :D
