What You Guys Think

Postby MudSlinger79 » Fri Oct 10, 2008 2:30 pm

Hi guys im new on here. Im building a chevy K20 on 5 ton axles and 56" tractor tires. I am going to put a 91.5 Cummins with a NV4500 in the truck. I would like to get the motor around 4-500 hp. Heres what i was planning on doing to the motor. A set of POD injectors, fuel pin, 3200 spring, I also have a turbo off of a 3306 cat that I am planning on putting on it. I also have a IC of a motorhome. I also dont know if i need a 14mm injector pump I was hoping u guys could help me with that. Any help would be appreciated Thanks.

the're are alot of things that go into making these 400-500 horsepower trucks. When you say a cat turbo, it really helps to know what model turbo it is. buying a 62/71 or 64/71 from one of the very secritive turbo vendors would be a better choice probably. POD's will run hot and burn dirty. New era 435's will be a better choice. Or come custom deal from shied. 14mm head is not daily drivable. It'll eat itself alive. And to keep all this alive and running right, you need a bigger fuel system, intake pipes, exhaust, blah blah blah blah.

Vefreak, how do you mean the 14mm cant be daily driven? I agree it wont last any where near as long as a 12mm but there are guys who have ran them daily/regularly for a fair amount of time. I think if set up right they can be used for a daily driver as long as one understands they need maintenance/rebuilding every so often. I've only put about 600miles on mine so not enough time to really say its gonna last yet.

Alright, saying they can't be daily driven was wrong. But they won't last. They're more fit for dyno run situations where alot of fuel is moving through them keeping them cool. 2nd gen injectors won't fit your dodge.

I don't know anything about your garrett, but the ve will easily keep up with that, but if i was you, i'd upgrade the lift pump to a piston lift pump.

the article on that can be found here
