GDS 60mm

Postby peobryant » Tue Dec 09, 2008 9:40 am

How many people have upgraded their H1C with the GDS 60mm wheel? Do you have to balance the turbo after you install this upgrade, or do you install and go?

I don't plan on doing much with this truck, just a DennyT Stage II Fuel pin, and maybe 6X12 injectors. Do you think the h1C witht he upgrade would be OK for that, if not what would you guys reccomend?

Thanks,
Parker

No need to balance it. They already balanced the wheel, just install and go.
You don't say which wheel you have, the Stage III 8 blade or the Stage IV 6 blade. I'm running a Stage IV kit with 370's (5x12) and it gets toasty on the top end quick. Anything above 3k and the temp goes up too fast.
I think you'll need to go with an HX-40 or a S300 turbo.

Plus theres a chance you have a 21cm ex housing being a 91.5 truck. It would be laggy.

Ditto on what Pete said. I'm running a 60mm wheel and my sticks are only 190's. With my current fuel settings, I can hit 1400* on the pyro at WOT with a stock converter I might add. If your going to get aggressive on your fueling, that upgrade is a mere band aid.

Thank you all, I have been reading over on DTR and everybody rants and raves about it. Everyone over there told me to buy it, but I trust you guys way more than them.

How do you guys think an S300G would work with the DennyT pin, and 6X12's? It has a 57mm wheel, 65mm turbine, and 14cm exhaust housing.

I made 297 hp with the 57mm S300, stock non i/c sticks and a stock 727. I like mine. Its not the bigest and the best but It is a good upgrade over stock. Here is a vid clip of it in action.
Its the same old clip guys, sorry!! Its the only one I have.

I still have a bone stock tranny, but plan to rebuild it when I need to. Do you think the 57mm S300 could cool a truck with the pin and 6X12's. That is all I will be doing with the truck. Sticks, pin, and rebuilt tranny when needed.

I talked to a borge warner tech and he told me the turbo should( underline SHOULD) support 350 to 400 hp. He also said the turbo would be safe running up to 45 pounds. I am at 34 to 35 pounds of boost with the gate unhooked. Mine is factory set to around 30 to 32 pounds with the waste gate hooked up. So as far as weather your wish list would work good, I don't know.

I do have the 21cm exhaust housing, but that won't matter anymore because I'm not doing the GDS upgrade. I will be going with an S300. Do you think a 62/71/14 would be too big with my fuel settings?

I didn't think the 57 wheel was big enough. The 62/71/ 14 sounds like a much better match for what you're doing. It might still get hot though, you're still putting in more fuel than me.

I'll be going with the 62/71/14. Where is the best place to buy one of these?

I was doing a little resurch and found this old thread.

I have a 90 non ic and was considering doing the 60 mm upgrade. I plan on keeping stock sticks and a mild fuel setting. I will be doing mostly towing with the truck how do you think this turbo setup would work for me.

Also, got a ball park figure on how much this upgrade will cost me? I plan on doing it next winter (too busy now) and need to know what I am looking at.

I have an HTT 60mm which is pretty much the same deal, and I can tell you that it dropped cruising egts, but hasn't seemed to do too much for power yet. Still working on that one. The whistle sounds cool, and it's survived 54 psi of boost with nitrous, so I can't say too much bad about it. You will end up having an oddly-sized (for a diesel) 60/65 turbo though. I put a wastegate on mine to try and keep drive pressure down, going to the dyno next week to see if it helped on power any.
