Next Step... ????????????

Postby RSWORDS » Tue Apr 07, 2009 8:05 am

So the 89 is running pretty respectable if I do say so myself... Here is the rundown...

POD's (I Know, I Know)
II Silver 62 - S300 based 62/74/14
Head Bolts Torqued to 120 lt/lbs
DennyT Stage II
Screws played with, close to runaway.
Reindexed throttle
Walbro 392 Pump w/ 3/8" lines
Built Tranny with Goerend TC
Reverse Manual VB
3200 Spring

So.. The Silver 62 does a VERY good job of clearing up my smoke. Time for more fuel. Should I step up and get some real injectors or remove the AFC lever?

What injectors? Should I go with 435's or Jump right into the 6x16's?

Truck is used for sled pulling and some street driving.

I'd say intercool it. I'd say you're leaving as much as 75rwhp on the table. That's if your tranny will put down the potential added power. I'd do that first before anything else. Find yourself a mostly leak free 1st gen intercooler and it should treat you fine as long as you have a VE pump, IMO. Then the next step would be a set of Scheid or kta 6x16's, then kta 14mm h&r, getrag, clutch, and the list goes on and on 8) .

You only have to cut up your grill if you try to install a 3" cored IC like a Ford PS IC. The air to water cooler will help, but I'd go with the IC myself, btdt.

A stock 1st gen inter cooler will fit behind a 89 grill? I thought you had to cut alot of it off.

You really think a stock intercooler will do better then air-to-water with ice water for pulling? hhhmmm.... I might need to just start taking stuff apart and see were I stand. :D

Sure will. Matt's 90 and my 89 both have 1st gen intercoolers that fit like they came from the factory. It's just when you don't know what you're doing you gut your grill  , right ptb? ;) . One of these day I'll take some pics of it. My plan is to replace the leaking one I have with a leak free one if I ever find one. Then I'll snap some pics.

If you want an intercooled core support, radiator and grill, come by and swap it with the stuff on my green truck. I've got plenty of tubes and hump hoses too.

Fenders and hood are the same. But why would you want that hideous 91-93 grill over the best looking grill Dodge ever put out, the 86-90 grill???

Get ya some water/meth, it will solve your cooling issues and add hp. As for injectors, if you get some, get some 6x16's, don't weenie out with anything smaller.

86-90 the best looking? i walk out and look at 5 93 grilles every morning and we'll definetly agree to disagree  . my personal favorites are the mid 30's dodge brothers grilles and the mid 60's with the pie pan headlamp rings. dodge has built some beautifuly ugly trucks :D .
