Cheap exhaust kits!

Postby BREEZE1 » Thu Oct 14, 2010 10:48 am

Hey pirates! I'm looking for a fairly cheap straight pipe kit for my truck. In my mind a set of mandrel bent pipe is a set of mandrel bent pipe, no matter who makes it. I know some folks are worried about the fitment of it, but be honest for a second with yourself. Do you really think all kits are 100% bolt on? A few are so congrats to them. But odds are theres going to be some cutting and shaving here and there.

I'm looking for at straight 5" kit. My truck is 2wd, and its a regular cab short bed. I plan on using the excess pipe for intake tubing (maybe).

I encourage anyone who knows of a cheap kit to post it on this thread, or if you know that a second or third gen kit will work, please post that info as well.

Again, Thanks Pirates!!!!

How are 1st gen people pirates? :|

5 inch is overkill. My 855 Cummins has a 5 inch exhaust. Diamond eye might have a 2wd kit out or you can go with stans headers(both a 4" turbo back exhaust).

4" pipes are plenty big enough until you get over 5-600hp. Then you may need to upgrade. Unless you're planning ahead to go that much then good for you! 8)

I have 1 of each. The only issue with the DE kit is the clearence between the driveshaft and downpipe. For 275 bucks the DE kit is very nice. I have over 600 in the Stans kit. Its very nice, but twice the money.

I used a Stan's 4" downpipe and 5" Expandit 2nd gen kit on my '93. Had to cut the tail pipe off some and modify the hangers but for $289 plus the down pipe I thought it was a good deal. The 2nd gen kit will only work with the 2wd though, transfer case would be in the way on the 4wd. Here are some pics.

it is always good to plan ahead. i really doubt ill ever go above 600hp. I noticed that there are a few cheap 2nd gen strait pipe 5" exhaust kits. I guess to bolt them on to my 2wd 1st gen i would need to make sure they are 2wd kits? That way i dont have to worry about the t-case bends and what not.!? Will the 2nd gen kits mount up to the 1st gen turbo?

Not without a lot of modification. That's why I just used a 1st gen down pipe. I think 2nd gen kits are the same for 2wd and 4wd, transfer case is not in the way for them.

I ordered my exhaust today.... I'm very excited. I talked to Nick at www.alligatorperformance.com and he sold me the diamond eye straight exhaust kit for $240.00 that was with shipping. I can't wait to install it!!!! A big thanks to Nick!
