New DennyT Pin and Spring

Postby rebel horseman » Tue Jan 25, 2011 4:28 pm

Today I had the chance to install my replacement DennyT pin after installing the 366 spring. While I was in the pump, I bottomed out the star wheel too. A HUGE difference. Before the 366 spring my max boost was 21 PSI and EGTs peaked at around 1100.

Today I drove a while until the engine warmed up which worked out as I got onto the interstate. As I went down the ram (which is really level) and entered the road I floored it in 4th gear then into 5th. Boost immediately passed 25 and ultimately peaked at 28! I backed out when EGTs touched 1250 on the gauge. Smoke was very controllable, although I could get a nice cloud if I wanted. When I didn't get into the pedal too early smoke was minimal.

SO with that said, I'm touching 30 PSI. At what point should I start worrying about boost levels and my head gasket? As far as I know, this is the original gasket from assembly in '93.

With stock timing 28 to 30 is not the end of the world. That being said, it could pop at that level. I'm pushing 45 psi with my 93 and I know its going to blow some day.

I'm also at 45ish with an S300 and stock injectors and timing and no intercooler. It's hasn't blown yet, so personally I'd just retorque and enjoy. :D
