Should have waited on the cam....

Zach is building a cam with more duration and slightly more lift for the fuel pump lobe.

I am sooooooo thinking hard about swapping in a 188. From the dyno-plots I've seen thus far, the VE would enjoy it. :|

I would hate to be in that position, thats why I went 188, Im sure there will be a better cam after this one too...

maybe Stomp can chime in, Zach said he saw a BIG gain from the 181 to the 188

That's the info I'm referring to. From what I can tell, It amounts to bringing the power on earlier which (I think) fits nicely with the VE's fueling to it's rpm range if that makes sense.

Oh hells yeah

cant wait to throw it in.

got bunches of practice pulling the lifters in this weekend I'll take pics of my homemade troff and lifter puller soon, they both worked killer.

kinda had to wiggle the troff around to get the lifter to stand up when pulling it in, hoping it will go easier when the time comes.

BTW is a small block chevy fuel pump gasket the same as a 6bt? im pretty sure I have been told that once or twice...

BTW again im planning to use Lucas engine stabilizer as a break in lube when the time comes, any opinions Pro/con about that? I know you used Lubriplate BC but Im worried about excissive goup in my filter...

Lubriplate is pretty thin stuff, and ive used it on all kinds of internal stuff with no problems.
Isn't the break in period for the cam like 1000 miles anyways? I'd probably do a filter change at the minimum at that point just from having the engine that far apart for that long.

Yeah, its thin for sure, but i just dont like how easily it wears off, the Lucas kinda grips and stays. I asked Zach, ill see what he reccomends

cam comes tonight, truck gets ripped down tonight, start early tomorro, hopefully be done by mid-day ish

crossin my fingers...

I will be getting the 188 when I can afford it. I have talked some with Zach and plan on picking his brain in person at a local M&G he is having January 1st. He says the 188 fits the VE almost to a tee...

Cams in, got most of the job done last night, lifters went in and out easily, didnt drop any, cam went in perfect, all is well.

started it up today, broke it in for about 15 minutes, then remembered I didnt tourque/locktite the cam retainer bolts. :/ pulled the cover off quick fixed that, then on the road she went.

first impressions, little bit throatier sound, idle was bumped up a bit, dont know how that could happen but whatever.

smoke is gone, non existant, little puff when you mash it, then at most at WOT its a bit of a grey haze.

Im totally impressed, power dosnt feel like its huge difference, but boost comes on instantanously, can say enough good things.

any one that knows my truck, knows that at WOT it smokes like a train, I swear its like a new truck.

5 psi of boost just maintainig speed in 4th gear going down the road 20psi hits as soon as the pedal is mashed, quick spike to 40 psi (down from 45) then as speed comes up it comes down to 30psi (again down from 45ish)

im a happy camper, havent dont any really huge long WOT runs but ill keep you guys updated

Awesome to hear. Does it feel like the power comes in lower in the rpm range?
