will it just melt the pin inside the truck while running or what? this is kind of hill-billy, but i don't see a problem with it. all you're doing is making it a straight 'cylinder', notching one side and smooth the other to a rounded finish.

It's not heat, it is the hardness of the pin that is the concern. Some of the aftermarket pins are not hard enough and they get a wear groove in them from the pin in the pump riding on it. This can cause the fuel pin to bind in the pump. If the pin in the pump is riding on the weld material, the welded area would need to be very hard (and smooth) to resist grooving/binding the fuel pin.
