Front Pump Seal

In all reality, how hard is it for a weekend mechanic to take apart and rebuild a pump?

Define "weekend mechanic."

I know my way around an engine but not a pro, and never been farther then teh 3200 spring into the pump.

Same here, and I wouln't try it unless I was just playing with a spare pump. JMHO...

That 'upgraded' fuel inlet , what size ??
That looks like an -AN12 or close.....

Ill try to find it for you. Give me a bit. Its about a 3/8" inlet but obviously its not pipe thread. Ill dig it up.

How does that seal come out? Just take a pick and pry it out? Do you have to take stuff apart to get at it?

Those that are lock tighting the seal, yuo are doing it in the truck right?

I try and use a small screw to get them out. Thread it into the steel part of the seal, put some vice-grips on it, and pry it out. They fit pretty snug.

I have changed several with out disassembling the whole pump. Just try not to get any trash in there. I have always had the pump out, but you wouldn't have too.

Anyone else want to confirm you could replace that seal with the pump installed?

Are y'all putting locktite on the edge of teh seal then putting it in or are yuo just running a bead around the edge after its in place?

Loctite won't work around the seal after it's installed. It's an anerobic sealant. Means it dries in the absence of air.

Pull the pump and do it on the bench. Its not that much work. Its the right way. What else would you do, pull the timing cover?

I'm gonna have to go with not only not smart to try, but technically not possible at all. Gotta pull the pump.
