Piston Lift Pump Questions

Slingshot, throw that strainer in the junk pile! I worked on my round truck today for a couple hours, put in an electic pump right at the tank to feed the system, pulled the guts from the orifice and plugged the return at the tank. No leaks.
I was underneath looking at the strainer and reached up and unplugged the heater. SSSSSHHHHHHHH comes air then the fuel came pouring out of the plug hole! Yup, found the leak, right where I told you it would be, then promptly forgot.
So I got that problem solved, I pulled the heater and put the strainer back on.
