You guys see Jeff Garmon's 3rd gen 1/2 ton with a 700 hp 12 valve? What's crazy is that he has gotten 55 mpg with it.That makes me think twice about buyin a TDI.40 mpg doesn't look so unreachable now.(DieselPowerMag) :D

That must be down hill or being towed because it sure won't get 55mpg in regular driving, or even 30 for that matter.

He says flat out that in normal driving you could never pull it off but he did it and I dont know why Jeff would lie.

LOL! I got the finger more than once on my 1100 km trip (that took 95 litres) doin 50 mph,and I got 27 to the US gallon.(3.78 litres).I kind of had to,my fuel budget was extremely limited.Once I'm in the money again,I'll lose 5 or 6 mpg!

Considering I've seen 24-25 with an intercooled D250 that smoked like a sled puller, I could see 35+ with high gears in a 1/2ton. 55 is a bit of a stretch, but I agree with RSWORDS, I see no reason for the guy to lie about it, either.

I have gotten 20 with a W350 club cab 4x4 with 4.10s, so anything is possible, I guess.

It is not lying, it is just bending the truth. In normal driving on a mass multiple tank average I would be impressed if it averaged 35mpg, you could probably average 40 in certain circumstances but not over a long term average. Besides why not emebelish a little bit when you are the guy building the trucks, wouldn't 55mpg help you sell more than 35mpg? :P

Guys! I am ashamed of you! Does Garmon have anything to gain by claiming 55mpg on something like that? NO! Is it cool that he did? Hell YEA! I truly believe he did it. If you can squeak out 21mpg on a 4x4 W250 4.10's Club Cab @ 70mph (I did) then 55mpg with the right tuning on a 1/2ton frame with a extremely more aerodynamic truck that ways next to nothing, it is possible. Garmon has been helping us cummins guys for years! Why bash him for making this claim? He is already popular and whatever he does is already in the spotlight and will triple and quadruple checked by the naysayers.

Rant off

:x

I personaly know Jeff and he is a good guy. I also know how southern fairy tales work. :P Even at half the weight and twice as aerodynamic which it is neither one that would only account for less than 40mpg. I spent 2 years doing engineering work for Ford on increasing fuel mileage and to believe you could consistently obtain 50mpg or better with that setup is unreasonable, he even said so. I just don't like rumors getting started like 100mpg carb's and other urban legends about the guy that my brother knows that................
