So are you going back to a single then? Can't say that I blame you if you are.

Nah.

I could probably have had these twins going fine if I would just hook up some gauges and look into things. I'm mostly just screwing around with them, and since the truck runs fine there's no reason for me to go out of my way to do it. One of these days I'll get around to it, but my first mission is to ditch this mile and a half of intake piping I've got. There's just too many junctions that are full of little leaks.

My experience with twins should not be considered standard, unless the person looking into them would also refuse to hook up a couple temporary gauges to get sthi straight. :P

Hmmmm, I caught the scent of a 14bolt in the area with a 3.07 gearset in it last weekend. Supposedly a factory Gov-Loc as well, though I'm finding mixed reviews on those diffs the more i read about them

I'm on the trail regardless, so I'll let you know how that turns out.

14 bolt is a big POS in my opinion.

I doubt it's any better than my 70, especially for what I use the truck for, but for less than the cost of a posi/locker in the 70 I can get a complete axle with a questionable locker already installed. If it turns out the Gov-Loc sucks, the 14b has a plethora of cheaper locker options to choose from compared to the 70.

I've also read that the Gov-Loc carriers had different sized bearing and whatnot, but as long as I get that R&P I can do whatever I need to to make the rest normal.

On top of all that, i get to keep my 70 safe, so if the 14 pops I can always have a spare.

14 bolts are good axles. A lot easier to set up yourself vs. a dana axle. The 14 bolt has carrier bearing preload adjusters, and it also has better pinion support with an extra bearing. I would avoid a Gov-lock because if it hasn't broke, it will. Also, the regular open carrier is the one you want for a drop in Detroit or Yukon locker. Mechanical lockers are cheaper for a 14 bolt than the dana.

That said, the 14 bolt and dana 70 are supposed to be very similar in strength.

Bumping this back up for no reason other than I opened the hood on the truck today. The axle never turned out, the more I questioned him about it the less and less it was a 3.08. I figure it as a 3.55 or 3.73 or something gay and worthless like that.

Anyways, I was kidding, I am actually doing some work on the pig. I pulled my secondary turbine housing off and went to town on it with some carbide bits. Gasket-matched it and cleaned up the casting indents that are clearance for the nuts. I'm gonna go back at it again, but my beer got metal flakes in it and I didn't know it until I took a drink and had them all in my teeth.

A fresh beer and I'll be back with pics in a bit. 8)

Just one pic, and it's a bad one. I dressed the surface with a file without thinking that it'd make it into a mirror. Oh well, trust me, I removed quite a large amount of material from the outside corners of the inlet, and smoothed everything for as far down as my burr could reach. I couldn't quite reach the bottom of the casting up there in the top left, but I knocked it down then blended it best I could. It was sticking out more than that all the way up to the flange. 8)

95% of the posts in this thread fall in that category.

I figure Pete is getting jealous that Levi's thread is catching up with his BS thread.

That's not fair, you agreed to bring them along even though you knew I was a douche. You can't leave them there now.
