New Era 370 Injectors

Postby Begle1 » Sat Aug 04, 2007 12:35 pm

Alright, so let me get this straight:

1. New Era 370 injectors cost $400.
2. They're about as big as you can go without hazing at idle.
3. They're good for how much horsepower?
4. Any reason's why I shouldn't buy them?

Thanks.

I really liked my 370's. I dyno'd 301/538 with them. Very clean running.

They're supposed to be capable of around 400 HP, right? (Hence the 370?)

I've heard them described as clean-running POD's; 300 HP is supposed to be what stock 9mm injectors are good for...

370hp is with a p-pump and flywheel not rear wheel. It is not with a ve. My trailer puller with 370's and the fuel screw maxed is also right around 300 rwhp.

So the only advantage to the 370's over what I have now is that they'll fit in a 7 mm head?

Alright, I'll just throw out an ultimatum...

What are the most powerful injectors available that won't smoke at idle?

However, if the 370's smoke less than the stock injectors, then I'd see an advantage... Then again, stock injectors probably smoke less when they're new, too...

So what contributes to idle smoke?

We have cylinder compression. The higher the pressure, the less the haze; this is because higher pressure (and temperature) aids atomization.

We have timing. The more advanced, the more time for the fuel to burn, the less haze. (Incorrect pop pressures play havoc on timing.)

We have the fuel's cetane rating. The higher it is, the lower auto-ignition temperature of the fuel; so the fuel ignites sooner, giving it longer to burn.

We have the injector's atomization characteristics; the finer the atomization (and wider the pattern) of an injector, then the quicker the burn. (Of course, the efficiency of the atomization of a given injector is dependent on the chamber design of the engine...)

So, on my truck: Given stock compression (I haven't checked mine, it's probably quite a bit worse), regular #2 fuel, and stock-to-mildly-advanced timing... We know that some 435's haze, some POD's haze, worn stock injectors haze and 370's don't haze.

What do you have, Swank? Custom EDM's I'd imagine? I wouldn't mind paying for a custom jobber if I could get 400 HP of fuel and no idle haze...

The man at New Era told me this; The 370s are a 5x12 injector.
The 435s are 5x14. The 435s put out about the same power as Dyno-mite Diesel stage 4s. Here's the rating confusion part. My DDP 4s are a 100 hp injector and don't smoke at idle. I think that's 100 rwhp with a VE. The 435s the man told me are a 155 hp injector. I will asssume 155 flywheel hp with a p-pump.
The 500s are a 5x16. A 185 hp injector.
If I heard correctly, he also said he makes a 6x16 for basically competition only. This is a 225 hp injector.
All are EDMs.
Hope this helps.
BTW; What are tho hole sizes of these? For example are they .14 mm, .014mm, or .0014 inches?
Swank; What are you running?
KTA; What injectors are you running in your current setup? Are the same as the ones you had for sale a while back?

Could you tell me how much those Dynamite Diesel's set you back?

They don't have 1st gen injectors on their website, of course...

Those 435's sound enticing. I had been thinking of the DDP 4's, but the price is a turn off.

Apparently the price is the difference between idle haze and no idle haze, though...

I just can't stand sitting in traffic on a hot day and watching the haze waft around all the cars next to me... That's just too much.
