400hp+

Postby spencermumma » Tue Apr 26, 2011 6:54 pm

Hello i am wanting my truck to be in the 400 hp range i am wondering what size injectors i should run with a 64mm 71mm with a 14cm wastegate? I will be running a 518 transmission that is fully built. The head will be port and polished but wondering what are the best head studs ? also wondering if i should get a thicker head gasket and whether i should fire ring or oring the head?
thanks Spencer

I'd go with a set of 6x16s. (I wouldn't run anything bigger than 6x18s) I run a set from John Russin. Very little haze. When my VE fubared, I had them pop tested. All 6 within 2 bar of each other. I have a set of run of the mill ARPs in my truck with no problems. BC847 runs A1s with no problems. At 400 horse I don't think you need any of the higher dollar studs. The cheaper ARPs or A1s will do fine. Orings seem to be the way to go with street trucks. Fire rings don't like the heat cycles a driver sees. Head gasket is up to you. I run a .020 over marine gasket.

You can pay for expensive head studs as insurance but the stock NEW headbolts are known to hold up in a 10 sec 2nd gen dually making well over 400hp.

For a street/play truck I would think you could keep egts in check with that turbo. Never ran one though. Ran those injectors with a stock turbo and my twins. Stock turbo = pegging pyro anytime you mashed the throttle. Twins = 1250* max. An intercooler would help a lot.

They also hold up in a 7 seven second tube chassis S10 with a Cummins...

I believe KTA made something like 480 with a combo like that ...(62/71 and large injectors)...dont quote me on that....

it may not be very drivable because of the size of the turbo, but you will make 400 if you can provide it with the fuel...

you will most likely not need the w/m to get it there, but it would aid in the drivability

twins would make it a usable 400....

He means the larger turbo might be laggy, and you would have a narrow powerband as a result. A 325 whp truck with a wide powerband might whoop up on a peaky 400 whp truck.

I did make 480+rwhp multiple times with a 62/71 S300. It was not cool at that level though as egt's would easily hit 1600+. It was never an issue driving, but I never towed with it.

yes it will what auto are you running?

keep in mind that like many have said before, shoot for a quick spooling steup if you want power with the ve

if you are going to run a ported head...why not go with a cam at the same point? it would probably make that turbo light a bit faster and help the head really breath
