fuel line fitting.

Postby crewcab59 » Wed May 11, 2011 6:32 pm

I am installing an electric fuel pump ( walbro 392) and i want to tie into the head so i can use the stock filter/water trap, but i cant seem to find a fitting that threads into it. do they make a speacial fitting or do i have to go strait to the VE. I have a screen filter between the tank and pump. thanks

It's metric thread. I'm pretty sure it's 12mm. It's not the same as the inlet of the VE. Someone else will have to chime in to tell you exact, sorry.

being metric would explain why i haven't found a JIC fitting that fit. I noticed on most of the write-ups people have been adding an external filter. and by-passing the stock one. is there a restriction useing the stock one??

hey-Hey!!!,
The fitting I used was a 12mm banjo to 8mm barb. It attaches to the head in the same fashion as the pipe from the mechanical pump does. A hose from the electric pump to this fitting left me with the stock filter and water separator( and its sensor ) intact.
cheers,

If you're trying to improve fuel flow to the IP add a remote filter. If you remove the filter and heater from the head you can see the inlet hole to the filter is only a 5/16" hole. Adding a bigger fitting and hose to the head is only a minor improvement.

That is the reason for the walbro, even with the lppp it still drops to 0-3 psi @ wot with 1/2 draw and line upto the lp. I have a large filter at the tank but it is higher than the tank and it is a pain to bleed out when i change it. it is too big to mount low. its the napa can filter. Thanks for the input.

Is there a reason why I can't put this filter up front and run pressure through it, instead of drawing through it. inlet is 3/4" (ya its big) I could bleed it easier up there.Image

Where is the walbro located? Most electric pumps are pushers, so close to the tank is the best spot for them. As for your big filter, can you tip it on it's side someplace and get it lower? Like outside the frame so the filter is alongside the frame sideways?

the pump will be mounted on the tank with a screen filter in front of it and gravity feed. as for the big filter, wouldn't the water trap not function properly if on its side?? if not then that would be good, ( unless there is just not that much water)the problem is getting all the air out of the system. if i could push through it then i could bleed it out with the pump............the reason for the gravity feed is at around 1/3 tank, hard braking or fast exceleration. the pump suckes air, runs out of fuel , then its time to bleed injectors.........this has to stop. the tank is a 41 gal. and flat. the draw staw is about 1/2" from bottom, I think thanks

Wellllll, the water strainer wouldn't work too well in that position. Maybe move the draw straw down to about 1/4 inch from the bottom. Mine will suck air at about 1/4 tank if I step on it hard. It's very frustrating, I'm thinking of putting in a sump and doing away with the drawstraw.
