The Little Secrets of the VE Pump?

Postby fergavs » Mon Aug 20, 2007 12:40 pm

OK guys I have modded my truck to where my pocket book has currently allowed. I think I have a fairly quick truck and I have tried to use some of the best parts available to me.(see sig) Now it is time to work on the little things that cost virtually nothing but time and patience. I have searched and searched for all the little tricks but there is typically little info on how to do certain things . In an effort to help out our whole 1st gen community please post all of your experiences with the small intricacies of the VE that add up to big horsepower. I realize that some of this stuff is kinda considered hush/hush but we are all after the same thing right? 1,000,000HP!!! [laugh] Anyway I know there are things like doing the 14mm head, 3200rpm spring, fuel pin, adjusting the pump, etc. that are well documented but I want all the little stuff. I'm intrested in grinding the afc lever, elongating fuel screw, adjusting/modifying internal components, drilling taping for 2nd feed lines, etc. Any and all info will help everyone. Please post as much info on doing the mod as well as your overall impresion after the change. Thanks everyone.

well i removed my afc lever and gained 4 lbs of boost and a crapton of smoke made the tires spin farther in 4th gear but no dyno numbers yet. i was also wonderin about extending my fuel screw my pump runs away now but let the clutch out and it slows back down normal so is this worth any more fuel or power???? if i get too much fuel i can alway throw in bigger nitrous jets.

Does someone have a breakdown of the ve pump that they could point out the afc foot on? As well as stating which portion of the foot needs to be ground.

Did you adjust your timing for the nitrous, if so to what degree. I have a Nitrous setup on my powerstroke, but the ford turned into the tow rig so I am going to put it on the Dodge.
Thanks

I just moved my timing an 1/8 " and it runs great i dont think timing is as critical to a diesel on nitrous as is a gas motor but i could be wrong. I do know though that when you hit it and the smoke starts clearin that 4x4 burnouts can get away from ya sometime lol.

Where are you injecting the N2O at? And what type of system are you using?

By intake horn, you mean the elbow on the head? Do you think you get an even spray for all cylinders that close to the intake?
I'm asking because I am thinking of putting on nitrous and wondering where to mount the nozzle for the best mix with incoming air.

i really dont think i am due to the way the intake side of the head is designed. my truck doesnt have a90 degree elbow i just have a strait up 3 inch intake horn off of a 24v bus. a friend of mine is buildin a sweet lookin port injection setup for his 24v and if it works good i am doin one on mine

A lot of guys fumigate nitrous before the turbo. I've even seen a few do it before the air filter.

It's a lot simpler than on gasoline engines...
