Nitrous Questions???

Postby ryanihf250 » Tue Sep 04, 2007 6:44 pm

I am taking the NOS Nitrous kit off of my 7.3 Powerstroke and putting it on the Cummins. I have a few questions about it.
I was wondering how far away from the intake you put the Nozzle that jets?
Would you need to adjust the timing when you add nitrous if so what degrees? I know on the Powerstroke I had the chip reburned to adjust the timing for the nitrous.
Hoping to add some quick horsepower before the next pull!
Thanks
Ryan

from what i have been told and have read the timing doesnt need to be changed like a gas engine. and for the nozzle not sure about that i think everyone has there own spot for that some say here some will tell you there. but i dont see that you have any gauges so if your gonna put some nos on her you better get you some gauges so you can watch that egt and the boost. and make sure you start off with a little jet and then get bigger so you dont dryring..
good luck

Nitrous makes the air coming in denser, which results in the burning of more fuel. Which results in more pressure in the cylinder at any given degree of timing.

So if you're trying to use as much nitrous as possible without blowing a head gasket, you will want to retard the timing.

But whether or not your even close to using as much nitrous as possible depends on where your timing is, what kind of boost pressure you're seeing, and how much fuel you're wasting.

when adding nitrous do you see a change in boost

that is not true

nitrous makes the air more dense and boost will increase

the more you put in the higher the boost will go - if you have the fuel to burn

edit - unless it rips your rear tires off the rims first. if that happens boost will decrease...

If a wastegate is set to maintain 30 PSI of boost, and nitrous increases pressure... Provided the wastegate doesn't just get overwhelmed, how would nitrous make it stop working?

when you buy a turbo and they get all the details about your truck build it for you and set the wg at 40 psi does it always make 40? no, might make 37 on your truck and 43 on your buddies

if ya change inj does it change your boost?

And if my turbo is always making 37 PSI, I don't see how it makes a different number on nitrous?

I have no experience with it, if you say there's an increase I don't have much of a way or reason to argue it. I just don't see how the actuator doesn't see the extra pressure and open the gate farther to compensate.

is the afc lever still in your pump?

if not take it out and see if you dont make more than 37 psi

if so put it back in and see if it still makes 37 psi

don

oh - you were just using that number cuz that is the number i was using

got it

how much boost does your truck make now?
