External Wastegate Install?

Postby Begle1 » Sun Sep 23, 2007 12:47 pm

Does anybody have any pictures of an external wastegate install on a Cummins?

How is it done? What do you chop into to get to the exhaust gases?

you have to build a custom header

you cant chop up a cast iron manifold and weld it up with ni-rod - it will fall apart quick style

Anybody know of aftermarket manifolds with external wastegate provisions?

What if you were to put an elbow of sorts in between the turbo and manfold, and put the wastegate onto the elbow?

to do
Get on Evil bay and buy a wastegate adapter for $40.
It is a 3" thick T3 spacer with a flange cast right in for the external wastegate to bolt to.
Depending on which one yuo buy you may have to modify how it bolts onto yuor manifold.
I had to drill one new hole and thread and tap the adaptor.
It sandwiches between the turbo and your stock manilfold.
Works very well on my truck
If it werent buried under my top turbo I would try to get u a pic.

i thought about suggesting that but 1) with the turbo spaced down and out towards the fender 3" how does everything fit? 2) does the adapter port all 6 cyls to the gate?

They make elbows in addition to straight spacers, right?

I'd assume that a spacer intended for use with an external wastegate won't have a divider? Because manifolds all have the divider that seperates the first and last three cylinders; I don't know how they would build a manifold with wastegate provisions. Unless they have a lot of expensive fun with a welder or just don't have a divider.
