Torque is not going to help climb this wall...

and hitting a wall like that with a cummins over a dana 60 is going to grenade the front end anyway. the 60's are strong, but hang 4k pounds on one then start climbing rock walls with high tq and rpms and you'll find the limiting point very quickly i bet.

i'd do as the others say and use gearing to be your friend. put in a 3200 spring with some mild injectors and a decent turbo and you'll have plenty of power while not breaking the bank

Thanks for all the input. This should be an interesting build 8) . Here's an update.

Progress is slow, but steady. I started on the core of the chassis, which is 2x4 box tube. Everything forward of the engine mounts, and rearward of the T-case will be .120 wall DOM round tube. These pieces are the "frame rails". Hard to explain, but I'll post more pics later when it starts going together.

My TIG work isn't the greatest, but it'll get the job done.

I've also been stripping the engine down to replace gaskets, do the KDP, and re-torque head bolts. More on that later.

The trans I have was a Craiglist find, and needed a rebuild, so I pulled it apart last weekend. I was a little worried that I was in over my head when I had it spread out on the table.

Mainshaft going together with new bearings and syncros.

Tig work looks awesome!

Is this like those KOH build I read on Pirate? Meaning, no appreciable amount of truck skin is going on this buggy?

I also second the fact that you wont need 4000 rpm, im running a 354 in my truck and I still dont hit even 3500 that often, fact is, it just runs out of snot.

the 354 spring does alot for throttle response tho, so I would recommend doing it for that, but I think you will be fine with 60lb springs.

awesome truck BTW, My dad and I have a bunch of early dodges, mostly 3/4 ton trucks, three 41's Not much room at all for a 6bt, but the dent in the firewall is convienient

also, ive got the con-ofe and it is plenty slippy

Thanks for the compliments on the welds. I'm getting better, but need a lot more practice.

I want it to look like a Power Wagon with short box, so it will have doors, hood, lights and glass. I'm also planning on removable fenders similar to the original style to keep it somewhat street legal-ish.

Good to know, thanks. MPRP built a 6bt powered Jeep JK Wrangler on Pirate, and had South Bend build a clutch for them. They said it works great for them, so I may try to call SB direct and ask about it.

The front Power Wagon nose is already narrow without the fenders, but I will move the headlights in to the radiator shell. The rear will be dove-tailed a bit, but it should still look similar to a short step-side box. I'm trying to find a step side tailgate to narrow up to about 40".

Something like this I think:
Image

The drawing is to scale, but i did mess up some of the cab details. That wheelbase is 108", but it might end up a couple longer.

And yes, I drew a v-8 in there. I made this before I made the brilliant decision to do something really dumb with my Cummins.

That Power Wagon. I thought you were doing the mid 70-ish PW.

Never mind then!

 Yeah, the old one.

I'll keep posting pics as I go, but I'm not sure if a truggy build thread fits in "The good stuff". Mods, please move this if its more appropriate elsewhere.

AWESOME! looks like the stuff I draw in calc class, no wonder im taking it for the 3rd time :)

I would try to keep the rear brace bars in the bed as low as possible, In my opinin it would make the truck look more "truck" and less buggie, seeing that you are keeping the stock lights and cab features.

very cool looking rig, going to look awesome when done
