Build your own turbos for compounds!

Postby TheTowingCowboy » Sun May 06, 2012 2:21 pm

Has anyone used like a HX40 to make a atmosphere turbo for a compound turbo setup? Has anyone used a HX35 of a HX40/35 Hybrid for the small charger? The reason I ask is cause you can find HX35's and HX40's pretty cheap and I figure the would be the best canadates for modification. Is there any bigger turbo's could use for Atmosphere maybe?

EDIT: I am asking cause some people do like to try cheap stuff but has anyone ran one of the Ebay Special HX40's? I have heard in many places where people have had bad luck with them and I have heard and seen before where people have ran ebay special turbo's and never had a lick of trouble. Just asking see if anyone on this forum has been brave enough to try one!

From what I understand, an HX40 is just a 35 with bigger wheels and housings. That's why they get the reputation of breaking, because the wheels are borderline too big for the shaft. I doubt you could do much to make a 40 a decent atmospheric. The 35 would be fine, just hog out the wastegate.

And I wouldn't touch an ebay turbo with a 10ft. pole. No real reason for me to say that, I just think my truck is worth the extra $$. 8)

I plan to run a 35/40 over HT3B or a eaton M112 feeding a HT3B

Your truck needs allt he extra help it can get! HAHA HEHE LOL

Well then would a good 35/40 Hybrid be a good small turbo? I am trying to get a idea of what would be a good setup. I would love to have something like Industrial Injections 'Phat Bastard' as my atmosphere so I may try and scrounge the parts up for a S300...
