Replacing front oil seal on HY35?

Postby Begle1 » Wed Oct 03, 2007 9:02 am

Anybody know how hard or expensive it is to replace a front oil seal on an HY-35?

Thanks.

If it's anything like the H1C/HX35s, it has a piston ring "seal", so it isnt really a seal in the proper sense of the word. It seals oil off, but only if there is no restriction in the drain. Without looking at it, I'd say either the engine it came from had an oil drain issue, or it got wildly over boosted and needs rebuilt (translation- chip or injectors or both). Overboosting isnt hard to do, since stock 235hp (or whatever the 01 autos made) was about the uper limit for the little thing in terms of longevity and reliability.

once you remove both the cold and hot sides of the cartridge...about 30min to replace the seals.

about $37-$60....haven't priced the kit lately.
