Parker's '91 D350 Build Thread

Postby peobryant » Sun Jul 29, 2012 11:10 pm

I've had my truck for quite some years now and haven't really done much to it so far. A DennyT stage II fuel cone, 4" straight pipe exhaust and that's it. Having a kid pretty much put me out of the game for a long time (which is why I wasn't very active on the forums again until recently) but I want to build a competent truck and figured I'd start a thread for my progress.

What I'm starting with: 1991 Dodge Ram D350, Intercooled, A518, dual rear wheels, regular cab, long bed.

A few pictures from around 2008:

My goals: I want to have a reliable, daily driven truck that has plenty of power on tap. I'd be extremely happy with 400rwhp and 8-900ft/lb torque and I don't think it's too unreasonable. I plan on swapping the A518 out and replace it with either a Getrag or NV4500, whichever I can find cheaper. A set of 6X.012 injectors, Super HX40 turbocharger, low pressure piston lift pump, and a few other things.

I also want to paint my truck. I can't decide if I want to keep it two-tone or go to a solid color. I know I want red involved and I may go this route.

Image

I think that trucks looks absolutely amazing and love the color, but I love two-tone as well. Paint will be of a low priority so I will have quite a while to think about it.

Right now I have an ASA intake on the way (birthday present from Dallas) and it should be here sometime this week. I'll get that installed when it gets here and update the thread with pictures.

I'm still working out some electrical problems as well and hope to have them fixed very soon. That is my top priority before any power is added because I want my truck fully operational before I mess with anything else. I'm having problems with charging even with a brand new regulator and relatively new alternator, but I'm getting the alternator tested to knock the easy things out first.

Any thoughts or opinions so far? I've wanted a set of 6X.012 injectors for a while and think they'd be able to support 400rwhp while still being small enough to work well with an HX40 and daily driving. I've never heard of anyone using that size injector but I want to stick with a 6 hole design and I think they would be great.

Thanks for reading thus far and hopefully there will be a lot of progress in the coming days, weeks and months.

you will love the ASA. I like the red, but some kind of two tone would look good

Don't do it!!! Just paint it and leave it stock, otherwise it will never forgive you. :)

Looking forward to seeing some progress on this thing.

Am I the only one thinking leave the paint alone? I'd be super thrilled if my truck was that clean! Go after the power and you'll have a sleeper from you-know-where

I have the same color scheme, but I have changed the stripe and now my paint is starting to flake off. For awhile, this color combo was all too common in my area.

In all seriousness I love the look of the charcoal or metallic gray (whichever you want to call it) on the 03 and newer trucks.

I think it would look sweeeeeet

It's been stock for too long. She wants a little more power, I can tell. :D Progress will be slow with an expensive woman and even more expensive little one but there are a few things I can do without spending much.

I've actually though of doing that exact color scheme. My brother had a '97 with that same scheme and I though it looked really good.

I have some better pictures but for some reason photobucket is acting up and won't load them. I'm not sure how that would look on a 1st gen dually though, but I think It could look really good.

The paint is starting to flake off a little bit and you can't see it in the pictures. Plus those pictures were taken about 4 years ago and it's gotten a little worse since then.

That is one of the reasons I want to paint it. While there really aren't any diesel trucks of this era in my area, it seems like I see a lot of these trucks online with the same color scheme as mine and I'd like something a little different.

I am married too, mine would have been repainted by now if I were still single. I want to keep the white, but replace the grey with a Navy blue, and maybe a gold stripe.

I got my new grille on but I'm having an issue with the market lights under the headlights screwing in properly. One screw will run in and get tight and the other side just spins, for both lights. I'll be going out and looking at it again as I had to come in for dinner, I'm sure it's just be being stupid.

That truck is beautiful Parker.

Now for me, I am going to do either a satin black/chrome combo or satin black/green/black...
