Suggestions Welcome!

Postby CumminsPride » Wed Oct 10, 2007 6:07 am

I am looking to build 375 towable hp. I was wondering if a set of 5x.014(new era 435's) will be sufficient with the right air. And now what is the right air. I see alot of hx35 over ht3b twins, is this something that I will need. I don't want to waste my time with disappointments in this build. 375hp is ALL I want and I don't want to fall short and have to build this thing twice. Thanks for all the info this sight ROCKS!

Yes you will need twins to keep egts in check with that kind of HP. The bigger issue you will find is that on a long pull using 375hp your cooling system will not be able to keep up so a custom radiator will be in order.

Thanks for the quick response. No problem with the radiator I can take care of that. What would be a suitable set of twins?

Thanks again, Wade

Lot's of guys support well over 400 HP with S300's and HTT 71 series and whatnot, right?

One of thesewouldn't work?

Granted the price is half of what you'd pay for a HT3B and HX35, but there's second and third gen guys who support 500+HP with singles.

I'm looking for LOW egt's though. I don't want to waste my time and money on somethin that isn't going to be satisfactory that's all.

You can use your stock turbo and an HT3b to meet your goals, no single will run cool enough on a stock head and cam 1st gen to make that much useable power. The biggest issue with the twins is you will need o-rings or firerings to keep the headgasket intact.

well i was reading on piers about them being able to cut cams, and port the heads. could you do this to bring down egts some because of better flow? i mean at 575 for the cam its something not completly untouchable, and might be a good idea

I talked to piers a while back and they said not to expect as large a difference as you would changing out the cam in a later model. Sounded like ours were a little better stock than some. No personal experience, just what I was told.

I just got a e-mail from Chuck at New Era about the same thing. The 370's would be better for towing because the 435's fuel way too much and will get your EGT's high. I am looking for 350ish HP for towing also and will get the 370's after I dyno for a base in a couple of weeks.

Should be worth your $$ to get an 7.3 powerstroke or an aftermarket IC to help with egts.

I have found a place to get intercooler cores from for not that much. I paid $300 for a core that is about the same dementionally as the stock one but is 3.25 inches thick instead of the stock 1.5 or whatever it is. I have not had time to test fit it. The AC condensor will surely have to go, but make some end tanks and you should be able to really cool some air.

i was thinking about installing some hood pins and removing the factory latch assembly. that would make some serious room height wise for a larger ic

The 370's will get hot if you use the truck, towing on grades, etc. You won't be happy with the 370's if you're looking for 350ish. You're pump will be maxed out and you're at that injector's limit! Although somone here put down 366hp with them. You may want to speak with them about the ins and outs of the 370's before you spend the money. This is where I'm at and it seems much easier to do it once.

what does that mean? "at the inj's limit"

thanks, don

ps - i have swapped out injectors 3 times in the last month. it is not hard and can be done in 30 mins. but it IS expensive
