Split another, same as the first. No apparent damage to the engine. In the midst of putting the injectors in with a stock unit for the damaged one pending . . . . . . something .. :?:

Ya know........I might be making stuff up in my head (literally might say something stupid).

when I pulled my 77lpm injectors, I had them in with the SUPER thin washers. All 6 injectors had the very tip of them clean. To me it looked lke they had touched my pistons, as the tips were shiny clean.

I'm wondering if we are so close with super thin washers and with a head that has been milled a few thou........and to add with a engine that has more bearing "movement" that if we are actually hitting our pistons at times.

Frankly, that's two that have split now, . . . .. with no subsequent engine damage (eating a tip). I got them around 05/09. How lucky can I . .. remain?

I'm wondering if and when one ought to get some new nozzles when considering my track record thus far (splitting the tips ;)). :?:

And if so, what . . ..

Well...........IMO 6 hole make the best power. Downside is they are dirty, and have a poor pintle design. I don't see how/why they would be more prone for cracking than other tips.

Bponci's daughter's truck ate an injector.......ddp comps for that matter (5 hole) and with few miles.

When I talked to Scheid, I was told "it is very uncommon for our injectors to split. However, the ones that have split seem to be in engines running lots of timing and they all have been using the super thin washers"

Now, take what they said with a grain of salt. But, I did notice that the downward edge of my tips were wiped clean. I have since put in the slightly thicker washers on my truck and didn't notice any negative affects.

I too run the very thin washers. Interesting.

Well, I'm still curious on what in the world my deal is/was.

The 6 hole nozzles are noticeably longer than the 5 hole nozzles. So, you would be closer than me..........and I should have a mile of clearance????

Well there is no way your motor is built precisely enough for all 6 pistons to precisely "wipe" clean 6 injector tips. Just guessing here, the injector tips are going to be the hottest smallest most exposed part during the combustion cycle and are being burnt clean. The more timing the hotter they get. This may be why a 9mm injector with a wider tip is a potential bandaid for this problem..Thinner washers give the tip less room to dissipate heat during combustion maybe?? High horsepower, timing, and heavy prolonged throttle usage may just get those tips glowing pretty good. Was also thinking, with BC having longer injector shanks, being large 6 hole injectors, doing full quarter mile passes could eventually lead to cracked tips. Maybe thicker washers would make these injectors live longer under those conditions? Once again, just guessing.

MIght just be the case. Makes sense in my head.

The more injector tip that is protruded into the cylinder the less "heat sink" the nozzle has. Better way of saying it.......the less heat the head pulls from the nozzle.

Didn't Soggy run into a similar issue with his 6x.016s from Schied? Been awhile since we've heard from him but I seem to remember something about that.... :?

Yeah he's so obsessed with hunting these days he doesn't have any time left for the poor neglected first gem. Shame on him I say! :D

Life gets in the way of working on them sometimes. The older you get the worse it gets it seems. Tell him he's missed.
