S300 74mm wheel?

Postby Underpsi » Fri Oct 26, 2007 12:33 pm

Could a first gen handle say a 64/14 with a 74mm turbine wheel? or would a 12mm VE have trouble spooling it? Say with PODs or larger EDMs

Yes it could turn it but I would not recommend it. That is a 600hp charger on a 400-450hp setup at most. Bigger is not always better, especially when it comes to making VE power. You need full boost by 2500rpm to make good power with the VE and that big turbo won't do it on a 12mm pump even with big edm's. In reality a 62/71 is probably ideal for that kind of fueling.

Yeah that is a good combo for power. You might get a bit quicker spool with the .70, but you loose power in the process.

Would there be any benefit to a 64/14 with a 71mm wheel compared to a 62/14 with the 71mm?

All proven by my truck. Pro52 71mm compressor wheel, 68mm turbine. 16cm T4 housing, not sure what the a/r would be, but I'm sure it's bigger than .80.

Underpsi, I think the 64 would make more hp, but might be slower spooling. The 62/71 would probly be the better turbo for a 12mm VE and POD's, even EDM's. Brian might chime in on that.

a t3 t4 is a t3 exuast housing with a t4 compressor housing mainly thats what the import guys call them that dont know what they r talkin about cuz there are atleat 50 different variables of t3 t4 combinations.

I understand what you are saying about the import guys (esp on ebay), but how in the world does the exhaust housing inlet remotely relate to the size or pattern of the impellar housing? :?

it doesnt - that is why they have a/r ratio's right?

what about the compressor side????

i can understand the ex housing flange havin a design designation - but dont understand the other side?

maybe it designates a 90° outlet or something, dunno...
