rebuild the oem injectors or buy new ones?

Postby 1stgenFummins » Mon Jan 21, 2013 6:59 pm

Being that I'm in the midst of doing the head on my truck i am faced with the options of rebuilding my stock injectors or buying a new set. I was quoted $270 to have the set rebuilt and pop tested. Ive been looking at a couple of different sets of injectors but I'm on somewhat of a budget. My plans for the truck are a reliable daily driver that i can play when i want but tow and haul when needed. I'm not looking to make "Big Power" and would like to stay within the limits of the OEM head gasket and head bolts. Ive looked at the POD's but was wondering if anyone had any other recommendations.

You can have them overhauled and even flow honed, which obviously includes re setting pop pressures for about a hundred bucks less than you were quoted.

Now if anything internal is broken or well messed up the price would go up. But unless an injector is stuck wide open they usually just need cleaned and re popped.

Talked to Robin Hood, he said I was going to need new nozzles since mine have high miles. Said it wouldn't be worth honing them.

Where are you located, Fummins? Factors like down time and cross country shipping would fit into the equation if it were me.

I don't believe DAP injectors are built all that well. I"ve had their nozzles checked out and they seemed pretty decent for being chinese knockoffs. But their injectors seem to be hot and dirty.

I've had really good luck with mine, they've been spittin fuel for almost a year now.

How do you know your not getting the same elsewhere,is there a makers mark or something?

Bosch marks their nozzles.... I have been told by my builder. Apparently they mark them somewhere.

Also I guess when they flow them.... they is a very noticeable difference in Bsoch vs. the chinese nozzles... the knockoffs are allot softer.
