Turbo Question

Postby 92 D/UNIT » Wed Jan 03, 2007 9:18 pm

educate me, is this a turbo that i could run for a bottom turbo on a twin setup? if not why? i know that a ht3b, s400, ht60 are good turbos for the bottom, but this one is reasonably priced. how does it compare in size to the above? $s are a factor and im planning on building the set up myself to keep the costs down.

email that guy and see if you can get some dimensions. it says it's for an 855. i think they used 3b's on those too. proportionally, it looks kinda small to me though.

Brian
I think that's pre 3b an old style. Good price if it's big enough. Let us know what the seller replies.

That turbo was engineered in the 1960's. It has very poor aerodynamics to the comp and turbine. It is not effecient at converting the heat from the exhaust into boost basically. That guy also is giving you virtually useless measurments. In turbo selection it is the wheel size itself that matters, not what size hose sticks on it.

no question is a dumb question. how would we learn anything if we didn't ask plus we have lots of knowledgable people here to answer anything we ask.

Upon rereading your post it looks like he did give you the wheel measurments as 2.75 and 3.5. For your refrence the popular HT3B is about 3" comp inducer and 3.4" turbine exducer.

i was wondering why everybody always runs such a big bottom turbo on their twin setups. seems like its more than needed. could a guy run a smaller bottom turbo like a hx 50?

just curious, thanks.
