Turbo upgrade/turbo whistle

Postby cutterman » Mon Feb 25, 2013 8:56 pm

The stock turbo on my donor motor seems to have a tight spot so I am looking to upgrade and am thinking of using a take off he351cw, what will I need to do to make it fit my 1990 non I/c motor and would it have a 4" exhaust flange? Also I love to have good "turbo whistle" will this one give me that or should I look at something else.

Do a quick search, you should find lots of info for this turbo. I know i have explained many times what i used to install mine, and yes it will give you some whistle. Use an aftermarket cold air intake to get more whistle.

They are decently loud. They require a 4.3ish" flange, you can buy an adapter that either bolts onto a 4" exhaust pipe or weld onto a 4" exhaust pipe.

You'll have to manufacture some sort of crossover pipe or at least cross over connection to the turbo, because they have a 90 degree forward facing outlet.

You'll have to upgrade your intake tube from 3 to 4 inches as well.

Other than that, the rest isn't really modifying.

RCC- does the non-IC have a different intake tube VS the IC? I ask because i am using my stock intake tube but i assume the non-IC's had smaller.

You mean the intake tube from the air filter to the turbo? Ya the non i/c is 3" and i/c is 4"
