It will work nice with a good tc in a 2wd truck. I like my 47rh, locked or unlocked with the 3.07 once i downsized to 245/16 tires. Same gear ratios as the a518 iirc.

Once upon a time, I had a 47RH in my truck and I thought the 3.07s and O/D were great for the highway. I wouldn't plan on towing in O/D, but I'd go back to an O/D transmission with 3.07s in a second. If I recall correctly, Philip's truck came from the factory with 3.01s and a 518.

i like 3.07 with a gutbag. cruise around in fourth til 55 or 60 then 5th for cruising. I have 33's as well which makes it a little higher still. Towing is easy too. you actually have a usable 1st gear, and i still mainly start in 2nd unloaded.

Thats good, he mainly wanted it for mileage, but i guess he tows his race car a couple times a year, which doesn't way much. I figured if anything he could just leave it out of overdrive if he wanted to pull anything

I suppose it would be similar to my 3.54/getrag/GV OD on the highway, PLAIN AND SIMPLY AWESOME!!!! I dont use the GV OD when towing though.

I run 33's.

I wouldn't have any other setup. The final drive ratio is awesome.

My overdrive wasn't working for a little bit today on the freeway. Wrapped up around 3000 RPM to go 80 MPH? I can't BELIEVE I did it that way for years.

I recently ripped apart a 1993 with a 518 that someone had stuck a 3.07 axle in and it was amazingly responsive.
I believe the tranny HAD been rebuilt, but it had a problem with sucking up garbage in the pan when warm, but it seemed like it wasn't struggling with overdrive in the short time I drove it.
I was surprised at how well it seemed to work and I simply HATE automatics.

That was me for 5 years. I ran 35"'tires to help out with commuting. When I switched to a 518 a year ago I couldn't believe what a fool I was for trying to make the 727 work. With 285s I'm at 2k rpm when I'm at 80mph. Now that's more like it.

I like the 3.07's in my crew cab with a Getrag and a 235/85/16 tire. 3rd gear is a <35mph gear. 36mph is the low end of the engine's operating range in 4th gear. Much slower than 35mph you're lugging the engine in 4th. I think revemup is running a taller tire and this could be why he doesn't like it so much for city driving. 5th gear on the highway is a dream though. My only complaint is I really wish I had a 4x4. Then I could use 2 low for maneuvering a trailer. It could just be my clutch or something. It bucks alot when backing my gooseneck.
