Exhaust Manifolds

Postby grinnergetter » Sun Apr 07, 2013 7:07 pm

Uhm, so I'm digging around for info and I can't seem to find a search function for the boards. I'm sure I just having one of those blind moments and it's right there.

Anyway, I would like to upgrade my exhaust manifold and am trying to find some experience with the aftermarket one's.

Thanks for any suggestions.

ive heard that ats flows the best. its the one ats product that i have that i actually like. anything would be better than a shrunk up stock manifold. or just buy a new oem manifold and gasket match port it. save ya some money that way.

No.... but our search function sucks anyways.

Most aftermarket manifolds flow about the same (little better) than our stock manifolds. Now saying that, if you have a crack, might as well go with a new 3 piece....

The search function buttons are found at the top/right of the page (in the blue). Use of the Advanced Search is recommended.

Ran an ATS on my 97 and 99 trucks. Was a slight gain in spool up, 50* drop in EGTs and about a 5psi drop in peak boost. Whether ATS flow the best or not, there was still a modest improvement over stock. Stocker on the 97 had shrunk (only 2 straight bolts on it) and the one on the 99 was a good used one that was ceramic coated. Plan to put one on the crewcab motor for sure.

There's also a search bar right on top of the list of the threads in each subforum, it's nice if you just know where something should be located. Like searching fusible links, you know they're going to be in the electrical section so just use the little search bar there.

If you want to look like a baller and don't mind burning a couple hundred extra bucks there's always the SteedSpeed manifold, I doubt you'll get much performance appreciation in a stock truck but they do look nice and have a lifetime warranty.

Re: Exhaust Manifolds

Postby PToombs » Thu Apr 11, 2013 5:23 pm

Back when I bought my ATS I researched all around to find the best flowing manifold. I found a chart, which I just spent 30 minutes looking for and can't find anyplace on the web any longer. It stated that ATS flowed about 32-34 cfm better than stock, and a little (4-5?) better than a BD manifold. I can't remember the exact numbers, which is why I was looking for the chart. Anything is better than stock, and the 3 piece ones can move and won't shrink and crack the ears off the head. I was lucky and got the stock one off without breaking anything. It was over 1/4" short from the bolt holes end to end. I dropped almost 100* going from stock to the ATS.
I don't know if I'd buy another ATS, but it works good!

Are there any other options besides BD, ATS, or Steed Speed?
