hx35w

Postby walkerkd » Wed Apr 24, 2013 6:02 am

Well i found a cheap HX35w off a 98 and im going to rebuild it myself... HAHA.. has anyone done this and i downloaded the repair manual and saw some videos found the kit got it coming. anyway i know there has been much debate about the balancing of the wheel but even in Holsets manual it says line the marks from the factory balancing up and torque. anyway anyone have any feedback on this? GOOD BAD OR OtherWise!

I have never rebuilt one because I have never needed to, but to the best of my understanding, Holsets are component balanced. If each component is balanced, then by default the whole thing is balanced. Think about all the guys with hybrid turbos. I've never heard of doing a rebalance after a compressor upgrade.

yea thats what i was thinking. i have read that rebuild manual several times and i started soaking the exhaust side with penetrating oil now while i wait for rebuild kit. i got the turbo really really cheap and there is some play but the manual says .01" is within spec but hell y not freshen it up regardless...

I've read where some turbos have a standard 6point nut and some have 12point nuts, the ones with 6point nuts are balanced with the intake turbine and exhaust turbine/shaft as one piece. Those will probably need rebalancing. Don't take my word for that but id research that a little more before you wind up with a worthless turbo or a grenade.

Yea mine is the old style nut from my reading seems those are on the newer 7 blade turbo and some did not have the marks on the shaft and blade and people are placing their own marks. now rather or not that works i can not say LOL!!!
