i welded mine

you dont have to weld all the way around it

6 small beads would prolly keep it from pushing apart

i welded mine all the way around but mine are steel tubes

would be hard to keep bead small with alum

good luck finding a tool that puts a bead in tubing that small...

i used to runa a sheet metal shop and we didnt have anything that would do it

i am sure someone does...dunno where tho

i was thinking something like this

[/img]

but obviously it would have to be shaped diff to just expand and put the lip in it

You could send it to me to roll the beads on or here is the tool that does it.

It is designed to work 18ga. mild steel, I had to do some modifications to it to work my 16ga. stainless tubes. I have been using it for about a year now and have not had to remake anything yet.

Just had to reinforce the throat to keep the rollers in line. With the added stress of thicker/tougher metal they wanted to walk away from each other and not keep the squeeze presure needed to make the beads.

I rolled the tubes on MiDon's 1st gen house. :D

The first time I noticed the lack of squeeze pressure it was 2:00 in the morning and I had cranked for 3 minutes with nothing happening, severe brain fade! ;-)
