Just food for thought about runaway

Postby RCCUMMINS89 » Thu Jun 06, 2013 10:36 am

You can't always hit runaway in the driveway.

Keep in mind that the slide collar can't move much past 1/4 throttle with a working afc.

So you can't technically get full slide collar movement (which controlls when it runsaway) unles you are under full boost.

Obviously I'm bringing this up because even though I know my pump pretty well and tested for if it was going to do it in the driveway........the second I hit 45 psi on the boost gauge while driving she took off like a bat out of hell.

Luckily I was able to stop it while slamming on the brakes and I was still doing under a 100mph

I was wondering about runaway the other day, what really causes it and is it more likely on a H1C and a turned up pump compared to a better turbo?

The pump is what'll cause it to runaway. If your turbo is causing it that's a very different problem. When you turn the fuel screw it lengthens the injection event. Go too far and the rack sticks at WOT giving you a runaway condition.

could you have just shut it off or was it true runaway??? I've had dads "runaway" but it was a true runaway I was able to shut the key off and stop the fueling. Something was stuck inside the pump. I haven't had the pleasure of an extreme runaway and nor do I want to.. It kinda scares the crap out of me lol.
