62 turbo...work or no

Postby rbrettctd » Sun Nov 11, 2007 2:15 pm

Will a 62mm inducer turbo work for me or not? I plan on going intercooled this winter, and seeing as how Im selling off some unneeded vehicles Im gonna get a new turbo. Will a phatshaft or htt 62 work well with pods? Eventually Ill go with some 435edms or the likeness.

What speed can you get up to without overly-high EGT's?

Are you an automatic or manual?

How easy can you spool it? This is just a street truck so I want to keep the quick spooling I have.

I just want a fun street truck. Ive got a 5sp right now, but Im debating on upgrading the clutch or saving the money and goin back to an auto again, only this time with a built 47rh. What would be better, 62 or 64?

that depends on what you want to do with it

they say that the 64 will surge on some trucks

if you are worried about spool up get a 62/65-12

you will like it A LOT

with an auto the larger turbo will wwork better than with the 5 speed cuz the auto is always loaded and it keeps the turbo spooled. or you can keep your 5spd run a large turbo and throw a little funny gas at it and have real fun

Okay sounds like what I want then. Who makes the best in this series of turbo and where should I go for it? I looked on htt but all they list is their 71mm exhaust wheel, no 65. Hopefully this will be a mod to come soon, as Ive been getting lots of calls on my bike. I found my intercooler--a 7.3 intercooler, should be on the way by the end of the week.

i'd go with ind inj

theirs will come with a boost elbow and they machine the bracket for the gate so it is not in the way AS BAD

dont know why you had a hard time finding 65 mm turbine from htt

thats weird...

ps - II calls that a "phat shaft"

josh swears by the super phat shaft which is the same comp side with a 71 mm turbine in a 14 housing

he says it takes a min to hit 10# but when it does it goes instantly to 50 psi

if you are ever gonna tow anything you will probably be better off with the 65mm wheel, and maybe even a 14 housing

i got talked into htt's 62/65 with their stainless steel 13cm2 housing

it is supposed to spool great and run cool but to be honest i dont think it does either - then again, i dont have anything to compare it to

order a 62/65-14 from II, have it shipped to me, i will ship you the 13ss for a week or two, and then we can swap back and report findings
