I think he's so far off the charts that it doesn't really count...

He was making quite a bit (I think ~400 HP), but there was still a pretty radical drop-off. And he had 6%$-something to start with.

It'd probably be better to have an extra gear than worrying about over 4000 RPM.

i think he is also using the stock cam and the 1st gen 12v has the smallest cam outa all of the 5.9L. so maybe if a larger cam was run the power could have been up a little on the top?

well there are only a few aftermarkets available and most of the sellers or manufacturers wont give up the specs so unless people have already purchased them it is hard to get the specs. thats kinda the bad part about some diesel shops no info unless your payin. but shafiroff gave me all the right setup for my gas motor by e mail for nothin.

Yep thats about right down 150hp by 4000rpm from 3400. The problem is not the cam, but the fuel pump at 12000 strokes per minute the fuel pump has virtually no fill time and therefore loses a bunch of flow and power. When I get back to the shop I will get out my cam book and look up the stock cam specs for yall.

actually, at 4 grand the cam is only at 2k rpm so the lift pump would be making 4k strokes, and only 2k of them would be intake strokes

but still, thats 33.3 intake strokes per second

now ya see why i did all that piston lift pump research?

say "one, one thousand" out loud and you will see that a second is not as short as one would think, but still, that pump has to have available fuel or forget about it

that is why i say you ought to have big lines, big fittings, and the big piston

if you could post the stock cam specs it would be greatly appreciated

I think he's talking about strokes per minute on the injection pump.

One stroke per every two cylinder revolutions... Stroke per minute is three times the engine RPM.

oh, he called it a 'fuel pump' so i figured he was not referring to the ip

huh?

huh?

please explain

(better)

the ip is driven off the camshaft

the cam spins at 1/2 of the crank speed

should does the ip
