These O rings installed correctly?

Postby 1badbirdy » Fri Sep 27, 2013 8:04 am

Long story short, I got a 12v head along with some other parts shipped to me. Well the head has O rings installed on it but there is a small gap where the rings don't touch.. All 6 of them are this way. Are they supposed to be like this? I would think this would lead to some sort of a leak..

Any thoughts, comments, or ideas? Thanks

I've never dealt with Orings but I would think that is possibly so when you torque the head down and they smash they have a little room to compress and come together. I could be totally wrong though.

I'm not positive, but I thought mine were touching when I got it back.

You know after thinking back I have helped put two o-ringed heads but don't remember looking at them.

TJ, can you take a feeler gauge and measure it? In the pic AHineman posted, there is a slight gap in the number 4 ring, between 9 o'clock and 10.

That may be a glare as I can't see it in any of the other pics I have. Too bad that was a few years ago and the phone I had then had no where near as good a camera as I have now...can't zoom in and see the detail I would like. All I remember was there was very little to no gap and they felt smooth all the way around. I have no idea if the gap that 1badbirdy posted would hurt anything or not.

Mine in no way looked pretty........but there was no gap. I don't think anyways.

The reality of it is, on most applications one probably wouldn't notice anything negative. But if one were pushing it to the limits it would rear its ugly head.
