Well guys, here's my old truck. It's been through a lot in it's life, and I've decided it's time to take it easy on it work wise.
But,,, I still want it to go fast, and be fun to drive around. I had a few old turbos lying around from past experiences, and I thought " what the hell, let's make one of these work as a big single!"
The turbo I had was a s366/68,1.10ar. I knew it would be a pig so with some serious talking with the other Eric, at the Hungry Diesel, we decided I should order a .80 gated t3 housing. This way I could reuse the housing with another set of twins, in the future.
Another purchase I made was a dps manifold. It was a fair price, and of a good finish. I figured with well over 400k on the truck it was well do for a replacement.
After some minor hiccups finishing the install, I took the truck for a little spin. I was surprised!!
Now,,, I'm not saying my way is the only way and I know this is not a good towing setup. This is simply a post for anyone looking to build a fun truck like I did.
First off it spools a lot like my old twin setup, just with a softer midrange hit. The top end pull is amazing. The egts once the turbo is lit are cool. If you stay on top of the charger between shifts, the eggs are surprisingly cool for the injectors ok running (6x16s).
I've not really fine tuned the wastegate, but curently it opens about 35-37ish psi. This is where I had my super40/35 hybrid running at, and this is when you can really see the difference volume makes, vs psi.
I feel I could also tow a small amount with this charger as well, but 3.07s aren't a great towing gear, so I'd have to watch my pyro quite often.
I hope this thread can answer some questions, and I hope some questions are brought up about the setup.
Eric.
