Single S472?

Postby 1stgenpullin » Tue Nov 12, 2013 8:51 am

I am planning on running a single S472/83/.90 with a spool valve and 14mm pump with all supporting mods (stock cam and stock 12v head). What are your thoughts on spool up and how the truck will act being limited to 3800 rpm? Not sure on injector size yet because im considering nitrous. A firepunk 47rh will be going in and how loose of a converter should I go with? The truck is a street play toy and will not be towing at all (89 W250 reg cab long box 4x4).

it can be done. but it may be out of the VE pumps powerband with a stock cam. ive never tried it so i cant say for sure. i think stillsmoken has done it. ill find a link to it. my buddy runs that turbo on a p pumped 24 valve, with a 188/210 cam, and it spools up like my 64/71 does on both of my trucks.

With a spool valve/ T.D. it should drive ok. Did you think about skipped the spool valve and get a cam instead?

I have been looking at running 2.6 s400 with spool valve, planning on a cam and head work first but would be nice to see how it works for you.

The motor will be out in a month and possibly if the funds are there a cam will go in.

Any progress on this project? I have a slightly smaller k29 k31 hybrid that I was looking to try. Basically this...

http://www.smedingdiesel.com/product-p/53299887115.htm

but with a 68mm exducer on the exhaust and a 12cm wastegated housing. The compressor map looks pretty good just unsure about the exhaust side being to big to get to spool. Although the turbine is big the housing is much smaller even than the h1c that come off it.

Good to see if you can get it running nice.

I've never ran something like that so I have no idea....

but I've always heard that a turbo with a ton of flow on the compressor side and a real tight exhaust side would be a surging mofo.

Not sure on the housing size causing surge but definitely will on one to small turbine ei the gt3082r had this issue.

This came off a 9lt 500hp volvo, has the fancy j cup turbine, and having an 82mm turbine looks to be similar size to comp- turbine match as other s300 s400's. It currently has a 61/88 comp wheel I was going to fit the bigger wheel off my other turbo seeing as it was the same combo as the one in the link. Bar the exhaust housing that is.

After sometime to think about it you maybe right about the turbine housing being to small for that size comp. The one in the link has a 17cm rear on it. Would need to really test drive pressures maybe to determine whether it is going to be high of a restriction or not?

Why not just p pump it? If your out to have one of the fastest ve trucks I can respect that but besides that p pump is so much easier.

Totally cool with that I'd be all about if I had a std cab 2wd first gen. But since I have a four door f350 with monster truck tires Im gonna go with a built 215 pump and hopefully get these tripples that I've been dreaming about for over a year together. In hopes that I can get my giant pos to hold it's own in a street race.
