He351cw install on 93 w-250

Postby Dodgetruck74 » Wed Nov 27, 2013 7:17 pm

I was curious as to when installing the he351cw what's the best route to go. Should I leave the wastegate on and use an adjustable boost elbow or remove it and tack the flapper shut?

All depends on your fueling. I have mine tacked shut but i am using stock injectors. It is better to have a functioning wastegate but a spring gate would be better than the oem gate,

I bought a set of 40 horse 5x12 injectors from a buddy of mine along with a Denny t fuel pin. Maxed the pump and did a 3200 gov spring. Installed a DPS 3 peice manifold as well. I've read other posts and they have done it both ways. The only thing that I'm concerned about is that the oil ports aren't vertical to the ground when you leave the wastegate on dues to clearance issues. Any input?

I ran mine unclocked without any issue. With 5x12s you are definitely going to want to wastegate it. That's a lot of fuel capability. 5x12s are enough to push my 62fmw to 50 psi....

Ok. Rccummins89 if i leave the wastegate on and unclocked what has to be done to the drain tube to make it work? And what did you do for the feed line? And BILTIT what is the difference between a oem gate and a spring gate?

I have often wondered if there really was a set number. As I've track packed a few overpasses, and slopes with a dozer.
I was in a serious reclined position for hours on end, 1:1,1.5:1, and even some 2:1 slopes. That turbo didn't auto level, and it lasted.

Not knocking you, I'm curious as well to know a definite answer as to what is too much permanent incline for turbo to last. For all I know as long as your feed is still your feed, and your drain is still your drain, you may be good!! Lol

Make custom oil drain..........stock oil supply works.

Oem is a spring/diaphram actuator and a spring gate is just a spring. Many that have switched to a spring gate say it works better, easier to set where they want etc.

If you search spring gate you should find a few different options, mostly home made.

So you would adjust the tension of the spring to achieve where you want max boost? And from the pictures of the 351 it looks to have oring face oil feed line unlike the h1c with a double flare. Can you remove the adapter from from the 351 and the h1c and just swap it over?

Yup you adjust the spring to max boost.

Yes the adapter removes from the H1C and threads right into the 351cw.

I cut mine til it was short enough that I could add some 7/8" tube to it and make it work.
