Larger vane-pump?

Postby BC847 » Tue Dec 17, 2013 9:57 pm

So, has anybody ever heard that the NON-IC IP might sport a slightly larger vane-pump as compared to the IC'ed IPs?

I haven't seen or heard of this yet. I've got several of each in the shop and so far they are all the same. But, companies have been known to do random stuff....
96 converted to ve pump because p-pumps are overrated, always testing/playing with parts to get it running better.

So what random stuff? 6 blade vane pump, why not 8 bade vane pump? Somebody have results on that "thing". Is it worth to pay for upgrade 2 more blades.

Would more vanes be better, provided that the volume is the same?

Remembering that the vane-pump is a positive-displacement pump, changing nothing else, the additional volume of space consumed by the additional vanes, would come at the expense of the same displacement in fuel.

As best I understand things, the only way we could get more out of our given vane-pump in a single rotation would be to make the assembly wider. (A larger diameter wouldn't work without an increase in the rotor's offset . . . to make it work). Even then, we can't go but so much (space limited).

I think . . . ..

What about turning down the hub that the vanes seat into? Keep in mind, I know nothing of how the vane pump looks or works, but if it is positive displacement you could possibly take off some material on the side of the hub that the inlet/outlet port is on, leaving the full support height on the far side.

I measured it up and used some online calculators and even at 1800rpm pump speed the vane pump flows double what the piston pump can. Then take into account that the vane is flowing 2gpm at 300psi max compared to the piston pump at a few thousand psi and pumping through an injector it doesnt make sense that the vane pump cant keep up.

The vane pump has to keep up with 6 injection events compared to the piston pump where it has one injection event per rotation since it has 6 of then.

BC.......are we running into an issue of the volume it is capable of holding or more/less the amount that it is capable of pushing out per given rpm?

Make sense? I sometimes don't type what I'm trying to say very clearly.

I calculated using the piston pump as having 6 cycles per revolution.

Read a few more threads and realised that my comments are putting me into "asswipe genius" territory. Sorry.
