VE Springs 3200, 3800, 4200??

Postby jmos4 » Thu Dec 19, 2013 10:50 am

Hi,

Been doing a little research and wondered, why do most use the 3200 spring and why not use the ones with a higher rpm, I realize most of the power these engines make are in the 1700 range but the rpm might come in handy going down the freeway.

is there a drawback to the higher springs?

Regards,

Not much advantage going over 3200.

Advantages to over 3200 - more responsive throttle in the upper rpms, drag racing... it can come in handy (can).

Disadvantages to over 3200 - throttle can be so touchy it makes it hard to drive at low speeds (surges, hard to keep pedal steady enough).

I believe I'm running an Unclipped 3800 spring in one of my piles. It doesn't fuel any different than my 3200 in my crew cab that I can tell. If I clipped it, it might change it. My plan is to clip the 3800 and try it. The pump is maxed and has a dennyt stage 2 pin.

All I noticed is a more responsive throttle.

Don't forget over 3200 and heavier valve springs are recommended to negate the possibility of valve float

Yep....good point.

That is also possibly the reason that I don't have a gain. I am not experiencing bad valve float...but who is to say they are not open just enough to mess up power. Not to mention that at around 50 psi intake valves get blown open...which I'm also over. All with stock valve springs.
