Ok.... So, as most of you know I still run the stock cam (for now).
I run the 62FMW/68/.8 turbo and it spools surprisingly fast and I love it. Here is the issue.... though one can have the fueling to spool a charger super super fast, what happens when one is not "fueling" it?
With the above (keep in mind manual trans and 37" tires) let's say I was pulling a 6% grade at 55-65mph.... truck wanted to haze as it would build about 5-7 psi at a steady speed. It wanted me to downshift and run in the higher rpm (I didn't). In short I needed more air at the lower rpm (cam or different housing). I will be adding a cam at some point, but I needed to find out what a .7 (12cm) divided housing would do.
So today, I installed a .7 T3 divided and gated housing. WOW, way more difference than I expected. That 6% grade at 55-65.....now 10+psi. The truck can build boost at 1000 rpms in 5th
.
WOT pull may be down some, but the truck is much noticeably faster getting up to speed and therefore the truck actually is quicker all the way around. Boost is still gated to 50psi.
This is how the 62FMW review update goes - On an Automatic truck, I would recommend the .8. On a manual truck I would recommend a .7
