'93 D250 Daily Driver Build

Postby dirtboyindustries » Mon Feb 03, 2014 6:21 pm

As the title says this is what I want to build with 300 to 350 ponies. With what's on my sig what else would I need? I don't know if anything has ever been done to the trans. Should I just upgrade the torque converter and valve body or save the money till later?

I guess if I would have asked "What chip should I get for this truck?" or "How do I get my truck to smoke?" I would get more replies.

Step #1. Remove intake from turbo.

Step #2. Crack open a nitrous bottle and hit your goal.

I would do the trans first, but its not my truck. What's your plan for injectors, stock or aftermarket? You could go with a hx40 or he351, which would keep the egt's lower.

A setup that worked good for me was:
Ddp3(5x12)
Ground fuel pin
366gsk
Lpplp
Timing to the head, with the ksb on a switch.
Hx35/hx55 twins. Not necessary but the right amount if air is needed.
Self built auto with steel planet, and a Specrite steel stator converter.
330/660 on the Dyno.

I actually miss this setup, the truck was super clean, and could be ran wide open all day long with 1200deg max egts.
And the was towing. Empty I had a hard time getting it to hit 1050-1100 degrees.

Around here people are a little slower to respond. You have to remember this is a small nitch site (ve only). There's not always a bunch of guys around to answer. But I'm sure you'll get the most accurate advise, leading you in the right direction the first time.

Welcome.
Eric

As said above, upgrade tq convertor and tranny. Go with a turbo that will respond quickly and some 5x12 or 5x13 injectors then play with your timing.

I probably pissed him off. However when I see a question like this:

I give an answer like this:

cmann250 wrote:Step #1. Remove intake from turbo.

Step #2. Crack open a nitrous bottle and hit your goal.

The logic seems to flow so well.

I believe one could hit 300 on a dyno with a fresh stock transmission and drive it around responsibly in valet mode for a long time if one was on a tight budget. If one wants to tow, you can't beat twins as Sutter said. With a good transmission, lift pump, and HE351 I bet RCCUMMINS could whittle on stock injectors enough to make the desired number. It's all about the budget, in my opinion.

Brad Ponci only turned up the line pressure on his daughters 727. I bet it would work fine for putting around with the occasional beating, but when one tows, you need a tighter converter. One of these days I'll do a budget build like that with some HDP whittled stock nozzles. Lol

My original budget build (manual trans though)

Stock injectors that "I whittled on"
HE351CW
4" exhaust
BHAF
M&H timing spacer + 1/4ish bump + no ksb shims
Tuning

The above netted 414rwhp @ roughly 45 psi and 12-1400 degrees.

Dyno number thread

Assume all numbers were made with a fresh trans and torque converter.

Thanks for the replies, I've been busy at work. Is a fresh tranny in order or a torque converter and a valve body for now? I have everything not yet installed on my signature. What's the best sticky to let me know how to install the pump stuff. Injectors in the near future but wanted to see what I can make with what I have.

Trans rebuild is dependent on the condition and past maintenance of the auto. A converter and valve body could be installed for the time being, and you will really be happy you did. Getting the power to tires makes all the difference in the world. Lol who'd a thunk it??
