One more intercooler thread

Postby rbrettctd » Tue Nov 20, 2007 7:24 pm

So I FINALLY got a 7.3 intercooler on the way. Found one for $135 but couldnt ever get the guy to respond, so now Ive got one being shipped from oregon at $175. Maybe steep, but atleast I got one finally. Im gonna go ahead and upgrade the radiator to crossflow to make things fit. Does anyone have the thermostat housing part number for crossflow radiator? Also, will my fan shroud work with a little persuading? And finally, will my a/c lines move enough to get the intercooler between the condenser and radiator?

Thanks all, I plomise, yes plomise, that this is my last intercooler thread...for a while .

Send a PM to DPuckett. He converted his, and may have part #'s. I think he only gets here every 3-4 days.

My truck is nonintercooled, so installing the cooler is different from Ace's and Dpucketts. The radiator now is downflow, so the tstat housing points the wrong way. To intercool it, I need to go with the crossflow setup, as the downflow is too wide.

Ya he's pointed out on DTR that the condenser wont work. Between me and the mechanical skills of my dad and brother (former mechanics) and the a/c shop, well make something work or have custom lines made if not.

rbrettctd Why do you have to go with a cross flow radiator? if you do you will most definitely need the turned thurm housing.

For those that don't own a non intercooled truck 89-91.0 we have a couple down side to are trucks.
ONE we have a down flow radiator.....but what makes it even worse is that the inlet..........and the out let of the radiator are on the same side...................so equal flow of the coolant thru the radiator.........well it just don't happen.
TWO We have a stove pipe from the turbo to the intake manifold of the truck.

As far as the intercooler go's i thing it will work just fine if your willing to make or have made custom A/C line............in fact if you go with Custom A/C lines...........you might as well go with the R134 compressor and have the lines to fit it.

The plus side.............Our injector are bigger from the factory, then the intercoolered guys :thumright:
As far as your shround fitting on a cross flow radiator...........I really don't thing so.
Here is a coupe of pic's of my intercooler installed. look closely at the center bracket.
That bracket will have to be completely remove.....if the A/C is going out front and the intercooler is going against the radiator support.

sorry, i just re read this post

The crossflow in smaller then the down flow radiator, in width?......Hmmm
Are you sure the P.S intercooler is to narrow in width to go around the radiator?

If so it may be cheaper to go with the 2nt gen intercooler. so you don't have to change the radiator.

All tho i have plans for a 2nt gen radiator conversion...............But i haven't put much thought into this project..........other then the battery tray, will need to be modified. :bball:
