1st Gen Newby here, got ??

Postby cv cook » Fri Nov 23, 2007 8:39 pm

Hi guys, I am currently a third gen man but have recently started to show lots of interest in the first gens and would like to build a play truck for the track preferrably a 2WD automatic. This will not be a daily driver and will probably never tow with it. My goal is to have around 400+ HP or low 12 second truck with or without nitrous. I know the early years were non intercooled so would I need one if I were to use nitrous? I know first and foremost I need to get gauges and transmission upgrades, then Intake, exhaust, head studs if needed, bigger turbo,Injectors, pump tweaking etc. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Charlie

defently get gauges first
then turn fuel screew in
then get 3200 spring
upgrade to an hx40 with 16cm housing
get 4 inch exaust
and get a set of 435 injectors
upgrade tranny
advance the timing
get ride of afc lever
that should give you 400+hp
oh ya get head O ringed and ported and pollished, it really helps

same list as his except ditch the hx 40 and go with a s300 variant and throw in some nitrous
92 w250, NV4500, D80, maxed pump, AFC gone, extended fuel screw, more to come.

Since it is not going to be a daily driver you should put a water-to-air intercooler like i put on my D250.when the truck was not i/c the charge air temp was 589* and after the i/c the charge air temp is 120* on a run.I went from a 15.03@88mph to 14.49@90mph 27psi.You can also advance the timing,I bumped my timing a little more then an 1/8 in and went from a 14.49@90mph to 13.95@95mph. I still have the stock turbo, injectors and trans.so with some nitrous and slicks,my truck could be in the 12s.
