I got it started, but the timing seems to be WAY off. I must have somehow not gotten the keyway lined up right. Never had that happen before, but it must of happened.

I'll rip the thing back off and update.

Like the timing is off so far, that if you rev it up it won't respond and eventually bog down and die. It seems to be like 40 degrees over advanced.

Well, I had an awful time getting it to go in... I thought I had it in, but maybe I didn't. I'll know more tomorrow hopefully.

That is what I thought and felt every time. It's also the main reason I bought a bore scope too. I got tired of doing the pump r&r twice

Well.... I could physically feel the key through the whole (using a nail). But it didn't torque down right either.... Also... I had to turn the engine over to get things in a better position. Which normally is fine with the gear... but I noticed that the gear for some reason didn't turn for a while... so I kind of feel I might somehow be off a few teeth.

Full blown amateur hour over here, but I'm 100% confident at this time that the timing is about half a cylinder stroke off...

I'd rather pull the timing cover and see what I'm doing.

I've dropped that damn key so many times, I finally got fed up with it and very gently peened the pump shaft, so it would hold the key in place. No issues now...got swapping pumps down to about 30 minutes...including a few to stand back and take in some beer. Just ask Bill about SOP 10...

Well, it's not going to be today... shop is full with new flooring for the house. So the work was done outside, and it is raining so hard you need your wipers on high just to see at a stop light.

The keyway was completely flattened.... not sure how far I had the thing off, but it was a ways. Then (I'm still not sure why) but it took me over 3 hours to get the flippin thing in the gear correctly.

All that aside.......it idles, I've driven it around the block... have not fueled past about 10 psi yet. However, I notice that it has crazy zero boost torque/power.

It is currently hazing like a MOTHER at idle... acts like I don't have enough timing, but it rattles pretty hard. Either way, I'll have to play with. As for right now I need to button a few things up and put a few miles at a time on it until I feel comfortable with getting on it.

So it's apparent that even with very little throttle it's making more power? Cool

It fuels so fricken hard its not even funny. I'll have to re index it... .at stock indexing and the idle screw all the way out, it idles at about 900 rpms..... and the fuel screw is so far backed out it is about to fall out of the pump.

with 1/4 throttle (I currently have the stock fuel pin, turned to the shallowest side) it'll black out a 2 lane highway in about 1 second.

Found out where the vast majority of the hazing was coming from..... I had a small crack in my fuel hose RIGHT at the inlet to my lift pump. Ran smooth, but was sucking air.... now that I fixed it, it runs REALLY smooth. The kind of smooth that I can put a glass of water on the hood and it doesn't ripple..... no joke, I just tried it.
