Time for some more power.

Postby v8coupe » Sat May 31, 2014 11:31 am

Well my 91 D350 is getting a little tired. The exhaust manifold is cracked, turbo doesn't spin freely well, and the exhaust is just a rusty tube. Think it's time to refresh the boost department and up the power.

Engine is solid runs great, just recently started to consume oil, and the exhaust manifold is starting to leak badly from a crack. So Here is what I was thinking as a starting point.

Steedspeed t3 EWG manifold
Hx35W (7 blade 56mm I believe) 12cm non-wg housing
50mm synapse WG
4" downpipe/exhaust
marine 370 injectors
add an IC (still looking at options)
M&H fuel pin (not sure which yet)
3200 RPM governor spring
M&H timing spacer
M&H dual feeder inlet

This is a base to my final goal which is 1000WTQ via a hx52/35 twin setup.

Any suggestions on intercoolers or other things I should consider doing at this time? truck has ~275k was a fleet vehicle.

Gauges (I'm sure you just forgot to add them on the list).

2nd gen I/c seem to fit really well in the non I/c trucks. Other than that your list looks pretty solid.

On the hx-35 why non gated? Are you going to use the external wastegate to let off drive pressure before the hx35 to the downpipe?
Injectors are ok since it has non intercooled pistons.
I always like the idea of air to water intercoolers, still havent had one in my truck, maybe someday.
I wish I would have done a 4000rpm spring when I did mine, you will probably need valve spring anyway with twins.
The dual feed inlets might be a little overkill but they look cool.

Mostly for better control. I hate the factory internal gate system as it is prone to creep and higher drive pressures due to restriction. Plus with my plans for the future an external gate is better for the long run.

I'm looking at pump upgrades later they will likely not like a 4k spring.

One doesn't have to worry about creeping gates on compound set ups, as you run a MUCH lower gate setting anyways on your secondary.

creep is an issue when you look at the size of the hx gate and trying to shove 500-600hp worth of air through it.

But the gate will already be fully open. You want that gate opening at 20 psi or so.... meaning the gate will be open and driving the primary in order to make anywhere near 500-600hp
