Intake horn/Intercooler piping kits suggestions/ideas

Postby Kasper Cummins » Sat May 31, 2014 7:52 pm

So I noticed alot of post looking for cooler tubz lately so I thought WTH way not. The plan is start with intercooler tubes and intake horns then maybe intercoolers, maybe stainless headers if the one on my truck holds up.

The intercooler tubes will be 3" aluminum, tig welded, 3/8 flange, and pressure tested before going out. My main question is will 3/8 aluminum be ok for the intake flange? I think it will because most aftermarket intake plates are 3/8.

Any questions, suggest, or anything else I should consider?

I would be very interested in a set when you get to it. For a power stroke cooler.

I'm not a member on DTR but thanks for the suggestion.

I would have to check how much difference there is between 1st gen coolers and powerstroke or 2nd gen. But I would be interested in building them.

Personally..... I would like to see it made out of steel. I might be thinking in an un needed way, but I feel that it would just be better. Aluminum just sounds cheap in some ways.

Steel would basically be exhaust tubing which would be cheaper until painting or powder coating it. Could chrome plate it  Right now I don't have access to stainless steel to make the intake flange but maybe this winter I'll do more checking and offer it in stainless or aluminum. I'm sure stainless steel will be $30-$40 more per kit then aluminum.

I would like to see a kit that didn't need heater grids and had plenty of bungs for injectables. Also if you could make one of crazy Carl's style of "tunnel ram" for a VE with duel feed as close to 1/2&5/6 intake runners.

I was cutting some for the tubing tonight and with 3" tubing it will have to bolt directly to the intake plate. How may bungs would most people want? The twin ram is something I would also like to do but, I want it to be able to keep the factor lines.
