Compound superchargers?

Postby Remps » Thu Jul 24, 2014 2:57 pm

Would it be possible to run compound superchargers? Say a procharger F3 into an F3? The f3 can make 50 psi and 4000 cfm, So basically 100 psi and 4000 cfm, +/- variables pressure drop, air temp, etc. and you could build a gasser style exhaust header, no turbine restriction. Obviously it wouldn't be feasible, fuel mileage would probably be cut almost in half, just curious if it's possible and how well it would work as far as power is concerned.

That's a lot of charger to drive. You will be not much further ahead in power and $$$ ratio as you would with a SC and turbo setup from Crazy Carl.

That is a huh? of 'charger.

It would also seem pretty pointless just the same as compounding 2 turbos of the same size. The single blower would work just as well, if not better, than the compound setup you're planning.

I talked to Steve Morris about this a while back. He has a blower dyno, and an F3 at a 3:1 pressure ratio (30psi) took 353hp to drive, so running two F3's at a 3:1 pressure ratio (9:1 total, or 117psi) would take more than 700hp just to drive the blowers. That's why people don't do it :D

Holy moly that is a lot of drag! 700 hp. I bet it might throw some good heat thru the heater core in the winter though, if it started that is.
