BC I think your right about the stationary power/ dual filter setup. When I bought the same dual fuel filter head I could only find it relating to agg & other stationary 6b stuff. Essentially 300k with ?? timing and boost with many many full power runnings.......dang good.

I've seen the dual filter head on lots of 4 and 6B engines in industrial machines, bulldozers, payloaders, backhoes.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Why not reuse your head and valve train, BC? Possibly your crank too, though I’d be a bit more wary of it being near that compromised block than the head.

- I plan to reuse the head I've been running. It's had a nice porting job done to it. The valves need to be replaced as well as dressing the valve-seats.
- The cam I've been running has been notably damaged via spalling as shown in the images above.
- The lifters have had sex with the damaged cam.
- I pretty-much ruined the 12v push-rods by running them in the 24v lifters mentioned above. Turns out, the ball & sockets are different sizes (24v is larger).
- Still gotta check the valve-springs to confirm they are still in spec.

The crank? Yeah, it's been forced to flex that meat between the 2nd main bearing journal and the broken 1st journal much more than it was intended to. Kinda scared to run it. (I've now got the bottom of the block opened up. Still gotta remove all the bearing-caps to see what it looks like. Short of salvaging five connecting-rods, any time spent on the block from this point forward is wasted time and effort in my opinion.

COVID-breaks are far superior to disc-brakes in stopping power.

While doing the Covid waltz, I managed to deliver the replacement block and crank along with my existing head to the machine shop.

I've got three to four weeks to clear a spot in the shop for the mess when they're done. I reckon I can tear down and clean/service the trip-assembly in the mean time.

It was neat to see the fuel pattern was still essentially in the bowls, BC are you still running 2 teeth advanced? Where had you settled the pump at rotation wise?

I have a thread over on CompD talking about the weird cam wear. The hope was to figure out what was happening so that I might prevent it in the new build.

Mr. Zach Hamilton stepped in and suggested I return all of it (cam, tappets and springs) and that he would replace all of it.

- Ain't that some s hit!?

That sounds like a curious mind at work and a generous spirit !

Starting to get replacement parts in. Gotta get one of the pistons to the shop so they can do the final honing/lapping stuff. They have the service/replacement valve-guides on order (should have them by now). Having to outsource the crankshaft balancing (the shop's machine is broken).

Still gonna be a while. :?

I actually got a phone-call from the machine shop saying they've got everything done but, they found a set of connecting-rods on the bench with my name on them. Asked what I needed done to them.

I like to think they will call again this coming week to tell me to come get it all.

Holy Crap, Batman!

Head: New valve-guides. Still using the Top-Hat style valve-stem seals. Refreshed valve-seats.
Valves: Reused with refreshing machine work. (These have been Back-Cut).
Block: Bored 0.020" over. New camshaft bushing.

Image

Crankshaft: 0.010 over both rods and mains. Balanced. (I've got Speedy-Sleeves for both end seals).

Image

Rods: Big-ends resized. Small-end bushings inspected/replaced as needed. Balanced.

We'll see. Huh?

Managed to start with chasing block fastener threads. Got all four sides as well as the oil-pan rail.
- Still have to bottom-tap the mains for studs.
- Still have to do the top including bottom-tapping for head-studs.
